I was thrilled to receive a WFMT student scholarship for the 16th World Congress of Music Therapy. While I was disappointed that an in-person congress wasn’t possible this year, the ability to attend virtually was immensely valuable, and actually enabled me to participate in more sessions than would have been physically possible had things gone according to plan. One of the challenges of attending a conference can be time; multiple, informative and engaging presentations will be scheduled at once, and it can be tough to decide which to attend. The virtual platform alleviated this challenge by making presentations available for a full month after the congress had ended; my WFMT scholarship allowed me to avail of these opportunities. This virtual extension of the congress enhanced my experience by prolonging my learning and opportunities to be inspired.
I am immensely grateful to the WFMT for supporting my learning and growth as an academic and music therapist. I will certainly take the knowledge gained at this wonderful congress with me into my future work.
