The World Congress of Music Therapy was overall a wonderful experience. I am extremely grateful to have gotten the opportunity to attend, despite the fact that it was hosted online this year rather than in person in Pretoria, South Africa. Thanks to the cultural information found on the WFMT website, I was able to cook “Babotie” a traditional meal of South Africa and even made Rooibos tea in my hometown in California, USA.
One positive aspect of having the congress online was that I did not have to decide between two seemingly interesting presentations that otherwise would have been taking place at the same time! The speakers and presenters were incredible and very inspiring to me as a music therapy student. There were many of them! It has been really neat to see the work of the leaders in this field from around the world. I have been able to connect virtually with professionals in the field and with students like myself. I am excited what my future career as a music therapist career holds, and intend on attending many more World Congress opportunities in my future.
