Just one year ago the professional music therapist registered at the Brazilian Ministry of Labor under the code 2239-15 (Brazilian Classification of Occupations)http://www.mtecbo.gov.br/cbosite/pages/pesquisas/BuscaPorTitulo.jsf

But another big step and a very important one is that from now on, the Unified Social Services (Sistema Único de Assistência Social- SUS) will offer music therapy to the Brazilian population. Music therapy services were approved at the National Meeting of Workers of the SUS, which attracted more than three hundred professionals from various areas in the capital of Brazil, Brasilia city, to discuss the need for interdisciplinary work in the area. SUS was created for the whole population to have access to public health of no costs. In short, now we have more political support to recruit new contracts in many private and public institutions.

I would like to congratulate all Brazilian music therapists, especially those colleagues who made passionately worked on this accomplishment for many years. This is a milestone in the history of Brasilian music therapy as well as a step toward establishing music therapy as a respected health profession worldwide.
