Warmest greetings! We are now in the final year of the WFMT 2017-20 term and the Council members have been very active in their roles - producing new member benefits, creating resources and working on various collaborative initiatives to further develop our profession around the world.
There has been much activity from our Assembly of Student Delegates which you can read about on our website as well as updates from Commissioners and Regional Liaisons who have been regularly posting news on their work and their regions. Council members were pleased to meet together recently in Aalborg, Denmark (face to face and via the internet).
WFMT Council nominations
On September 1st, the forms to nominate potential Council members for the 2020-2023 term will be posted on the WFMT website. If you know of a music therapist who could be interested and has the skills to run for one of the positions, please suggest that you make a nomination. The final elections will be held in the 2020 General Business meeting during the World Congress.
WFMT Membership
The WFMT is ineffective without a strong membership. This year the WFMT Council has worked hard to come up with new incentives to make membership attractive for individuals and professional associations. It is our objective to support our members in making your voice heard. Annual Report
The 2018-2019 Annual Report has now been uploaded to the WFMT website. I recommend you make some time to read in detail all the tasks and achievements of our Executive team, Commissioners and Regional Liaisons. I want to thank each of the Council members as well as members of the different Commissions for their involvement and hard work to contribute to the development of our profession.
WFMT Publications: Music Therapy Today (MTT)
The 2019 issue of Music Therapy Today will be uploaded during this month of August. This year’s edition has been dedicated to “Music Therapy & Trauma” co-edited by Dr. Gene Ann Behrens and Dr. Annie Heiderscheit. Please, check the MTT page in the coming weeks. Members of the Publications Commission, led by Dr. Annie Heiderscheit have been working hard to prepare the 2019 issue, and will be very busy this coming year to prepare the proceedings of the 2020 WCMT to be published in the 2020 edition of MTT.

Our Facebook Group membership is growing every day, do join us if you haven’t already! We also have a Facebook page, Twitter and Instagram accounts so please do get involved and help to spread the word about music therapy.
16th World Congress of Music Therapy
The WFMT is really excited about the upcoming World Congress of Music Therapy, July 7th - 11th 2020. This will be held at the University of Pretoria in partnership with the South African Music Therapy Association. Over 600 abstracts have been submitted and are in the process of being reviewed. I hope to see many music therapists from around the world in South Africa.
