Hello from Australia and New Zealand. It's great to bring you recent news and highlights from our region.

In Queensland in April, around 150 music therapists and members of the public enjoyed Neurologic Music Therapy Workshops and seminars with Suzanne Oliver.

The Australian Music Therapy Association has partnered with MEWSIC, which is part of the Brett Lee Foundation in Mumbai, India. (Many Australian cricketers have set up charitable foundations in India.) Brett Lee's foundation is all about children and music, and not surprisingly, he’s turned to music therapy. The Australian Journal of Music Therapy is calling for papers for a Special Section in the Australian Music Therapy Journal, vol. 25, 2014 on aspects of culture in music therapy. Upcoming conferences in our region:

Music and Health: Evidence and Evolution is the theme of this year’s Australian conference with Professor Raymond MacDonald, Professor of Music Psychology at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. All are welcome at the 2013 AMTA National Conference, which will be held September 14-15 in Melbourne. Following the conference, Dr. Daphne Rickson from NZ will present at the University of Melbourne on conceptualising a new approach to being a music therapist in schools.

Te Kōkī, New Zealand School of Music, is pleased to host the music therapy and related disciplines conference “Linking cultures: Collaborative partnerships in music therapy and related disciplines” in Wellington, NZ, November 23-24, 2013. For further information, emailberys.cuncannon@nzsm.ac.nz.

Co-hosted by Music, Mind and Wellbeing, The 1st Australian Music and Psychology Society Conference: Music, Mind and Health will be held in Melbourne, November 27-30, 2013. The conference will explore the health benefits of music with content including indigenous music, music and brain, and music and community.
