Session Description

An increasing number of students and young professionals of the American Music Therapy Association are seeking opportunities to broaden their international experiences. Students study abroad and/or engage in service projects such as the Jamaica Field Project or the Grand Cayman Island Project. Professionals attend international conferences and work on other countries outside the U.S.This presentation introduces interactive student projects of the World Federation of Music Therapy (WFMT) such as the

  • Window to the World, documenting students’ experiences in cultures outside of their own
  • Info Cards, answers questions about music therapy in more than ten language
  • Connection, a peer matching program assisting in making international friendships
  • Assembly of Student Delegates, the new student voice on the WFMT Council

Professionals, will learn how to contribute to the

  • Sound Board, capturing auditory music therapy moments around the world
  • WFMT Online Education Center, offering educational videos
  • WFMT Blog, providing regional updates
  • WFMT Commissioner’s work
  • 2011 World Congress of Music Therapy in Seoul, Korea

Attendees will be encouraged to share their experiences and ideas and contribute to one or more of the outlined projects during this session. Using PowerPoints including audio recordings and hyperlinks to specific WFMT website content, attendees will broaden their understanding of music therapy worldwide and become a part of the global community.
