Dear Colleagues,It is natural this time of year to reflect on the previous year while looking ahead to the year to come. It is an interesting experience to reflect on the past and to look ahead to the future simultaneously. As we usher in 2014,we can recognize all the hard work and accomplishments of 2013:• Beginning the year with a leadership transition• Redesigning the website• Creating a strategic planning work group, developing internal and external stakeholders surveys, & distributing these surveys via Survey Monkey and Facebook• WFMT Council holding its annual meeting and presenting a roundtable at the European Music TherapyCongress in Oslo, Norway• Organizing and planning the 2014 World Congress in Vienna/Krems, Austria• Revising WFMT Bylaws• WFMT Assembly of Student Delegates engagement, including creating video resources for students and planning student events for the 2014 World Congress• Developing a slate of candidates for the 2014-2017 WFMT Council and preparing a call for nominations• Conducting a review of applications for student and professional 2014 World Congress scholarships, and• Accepting and reviewing proposals for the 2017 and 2020 World Congress. While last year was filled with the work of the WFMT, our future awaits and the work is not yet completed. In the months to follow, we will continue to:• Complete preparations for the 2014 World Congress• Prepare for 2014-2017 WFMT Council elections (please review our WFMT Slate of Candidates)• Develop the WFMT first strategic plan based on survey results• Prepare materials and documents for transition to 2014-2017 WFMT Council, and• Maintain communication with members.I welcome this time to reflect and look forward, as I find it provides opportunity to learn and grow. Consider these words from a few great minds as you reflect and look forward.“The future depends on what you do today.” ~Mahatma Gandhi“The best way to predict your future is to create it.” ~Abraham Lincoln“Let go of the past and go for the future. Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you imagined.” ~Henry David ThoreauWe continue to dream and imagine the possibilities of music therapy in and for the world. We work to create a future for music therapy and music therapists all around the world, and we move confidently in the direction of advancing and supporting the development of music therapy globally. I hope you will continue to join us in these endeavors.Annie Heiderscheit, Ph.D., MT-BC, LMFTFellow of the Association for Music and ImageryInterim President, WFMT
