Since the last regional update, we have had some positive changes within the music therapy community here in the Eastern Mediterranean!
While advocacy has continued through clinical practice, presentations and engagement within local communities, we have also welcomed back some music therapists to the region! This is great news, as each and every therapist in the Eastern Mediterranean plays a large role in the development of music therapy services. We currently have music therapists working in a variety of settings with a range of populations to include, pediatric hospice and palliative care, rehabilitation, pediatric development, early intervention, trauma, refugee support, and others.
There is also now an Eastern Mediterranean chat group where therapists can connect with each other for support. We hope that by creating this space it will help provide a sense of community between the music therapists throughout the region. If there are any music therapists living in the Eastern Mediterranean who would like to be added to the private chat group, please contact me at easternmediterranean@wfmt.info.
There is also exciting news that many of the music therapists in the region have had abstracts accepted for the WCMT ‘20! This will be an exciting opportunity for all of us to finally meet face to face and share the work we have been doing.
